Orthokeratology

Imagine seeing clearly throughout the day without glasses or contact lenses. New contact lens designs and technology called Corneal Topography make this possible.

Orthokeratology is becoming an increasingly popular risk free alternative to laser eye surgery (lasik).  Forest Lakes Optometrist is pleased to be able to offer this specialised service to our patients in Perth.

What is Orthokeratology?

Ortho-k or Corneal Reshaping Therapy is a non surgical procedure which involves wearing a hard contact lens while sleeping at night. The contact lens gently reshapes the cornea (front surface of the eye) eliminating myopia, resulting in clear vision during the day without the need for glasses or contact lenses. The lenses are worn every night and removed upon waking to enable the wearer to go about day to day activities, such as sport, with the freedom and convenience of not having to wear spectacles or contact lenses during daytime.

Orthokeratology is a non surgical alternative to lasik laser eye surgery.

Who is suitable for Ortho-k?

  • – Anyone from the age of 10 to 70 years are suitable for orthokeratology
  • – Primarily myopic (short sighted) individuals with a prescription between -0.75 to -5.00
  • – Current contact lens wearers who want to be free from lens wear during the day due to discomfort.

Myopia Control

Recent studies show that in 50% of children with increasing myopia, fitting Ortho-k contact lenses stops further increases in the myopic prescription.
